As a creator, you’ll know that music has the power to tell a story. But have you ever considered the story behind the music itself?
Here at Universal Music for Creators, our artists play a critical part in our identity. That’s why we are proud to champion songwriters, composers and artists from all ethnicities, backgrounds and gender identities. By telling the stories behind their music, we hope to empower creators and songwriters alike, whilst resonating deeply with new audiences.
Part of our commitment to telling the stories behind our music is our ‘Create with Conscience’ collection, which features three new playlists: Create Green, Recognize the Roots, and Sound Her Way. Each playlist has been curated by our expert team to amplify the diverse voices across our vast music library.
Create Green highlights music in our library specifically produced through carbon-conscious methods to reduce environmental impact on our planet. Recognize the Roots is dedicated to celebrating black artists from our catalogue across all genres. Sound Her Way, showcases music entirely written, composed, and produced by women.
Read on to discover more about Sound Her Way and the importance of highlighting underrepresented voices in music.
Why Sound Her Way Matters
Like many other industries, women in music are underrepresented, particularly in roles such as music production, mixing/mastering and songwriting. A report revealed that only 14% of major music songwriters were women, and more than half of songs produced over 11 years failed to credit one of their female songwriters. By contrast, fewer than 1% of songs omitted credit for male songwriters.
Our Sound Her Way playlist is a collection of tracks written and produced by our finest female talent, designed to help inspire meaningful change and increase representation for more women in the industry. Use these tracks in your content to support female artists, songwriters and producers whilst enhancing your project with authentic, high-quality sound. This is a chance to amplify your content, as well as the voices of female artists and composers.
